Common Skincare mistakes I made that you can learn from

Every individual's skin is unique, with different concerns. Regardless of any skin concerns you may have, remember that you are beautiful and it does not define you. In this article, I want to share some skincare mistakes I made that you can learn from.

1. Washing your face frequently:

One common mistake I made was washing my face too often. I used to believe that frequent washing would clear my skin, but it actually made my face more oily and caused more breakouts. If you're still doing this, I advise you to stop. Over-washing can strip your skin of its natural oils and disrupt its balance.

2. Using physical scrubs on your face:

In the past, I used physical exfoliants or scrubs on my face, thinking they would help with my skin concerns. However, I later realized that they were too harsh and damaging to my skin barrier. Instead, I recommend using chemical exfoliants, which are gentler and more effective in promoting skin renewal.

3. Using products that don't target your skin concern:

While I'm not a dermatologist, I want to emphasize the importance of using products that address your specific skin concerns. If possible, consult a dermatologist for personalized recommendations. I am just someone who writes and gives valuable tips on how to address your skin concerns among other things, or let me just say I am someone who wants to help. In one of my previous articles, I wrote about embracing your skin where I clearly stated that your main goal should be having an healthy skin and managing your skin concerns.  I made the mistake of using trendy products or ones without checking the ingredients, and it resulted in further damage to my skin. Be cautious and select products that suit your skin type and address your concerns.

4. Lack of patience:

I must admit, I was impatient when it came to my skincare routine. Whenever my skin was recovering from previous damage, I would switch to different products too quickly. However, I've learned the importance of being patient with my skin. Consistency is key in skincare, and it takes time for products to show results. Unless a product is causing irritation, give it time to work before switching to something else.

5. Believing expensive products work better:

Expensive doesn't always mean better when it comes to skincare. I used to invest in pricey products, hoping they would magically improve my skin. However, I discovered that cost doesn't guarantee effectiveness. It's more important to find products that work for you and are gentle on your skin, even if they're more affordable. Skincare is a long-term commitment, and the key ingredients and formulation matter more than the price tag.

Remember, skincare is a journey, and everyone's skin is different. Don't compare your skin to others or get discouraged by temporary changes. Focus on achieving healthy skin and managing your specific concerns. Consistency, patience, and being true to yourself should be your daily mantras. Choose products wisely, considering your skin's needs and what it can tolerate. With time and the right approach, you can achieve the healthy skin you desire.
